Daniel's House is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible — including people with disabilities and people using assistive technology. We treat accessibility as part of the product, not an afterthought.

Conformance statement

Standard: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and equivalent accessibility laws across Canada, the UK, and the European Union.

Conformance level: Daniel's House is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content do not fully meet the standard — we are actively remediating these and treat each gap as a bug.

Assessment approach: Self-evaluation combining automated tooling (axe DevTools, Lighthouse), manual keyboard testing, and screen reader testing across NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.

Our standard

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the international standard for web accessibility, also referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and similar laws in Canada, the UK, and the EU. We test our pages against this standard and treat any gap as a bug to fix.

What we've built in

• Semantic HTML — pages use proper headings, landmarks, lists, and labels so screen readers can navigate efficiently
• Keyboard navigation — every interactive element (nav, buttons, forms, cart, lightboxes, accordions) is reachable and operable with Tab, Enter, and Escape
• Visible focus states — keyboard focus is always visible
• Color contrast — body text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG AA contrast ratio (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components)
• Alt text on images — product images and meaningful illustrations include descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked as such so screen readers skip them
• Resizable text — the site supports up to 200% zoom without loss of content or function
• Form labels and errors — every form field has a visible, programmatically-associated label; validation errors are announced to assistive technology
• Respect for motion preferences — animations and transitions are minimal and respect the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting
• Mobile-first design — touch targets are sized for finger use; tap areas don't sit too close together

Known limitations

We're a young company and we know accessibility is never "done." Areas we're actively improving:

• Some product photos may have shorter alt text than they should — we're auditing and expanding
• The product carousel/lightbox is being refined for better screen reader announcements
• Captions for any future video content
